What do you choose to believe or think is right in regards to the issues of our times? Was the 2020 Election stolen or wasn’t it? We are in a position where we have to rely on information from other parties in order to form a basis for our decision. All of the evidence supports the premise that the election was not stolen or rigged, but yet a significant amount of us believe that it was in fact stolen. Why do people choose to believe the election was stolen in the face of all the evidence to the contrary? Is it because they have not familiarized themselves with the facts of the matter and chosen to blindly believe what they want to believe? Could it be that people have reviewed the facts and still chosen to deny them? What is that about? Could it not be anything but pure denial?
Blind faith implies the need to hold onto a belief even in the face of no objective evidence to support the belief being held. Having a complete trust or confidence in someone or something despite the lack of empirical evidence or refutable truths. The most poignant example of this would be the belief in god and/or an all- powerful force.
In the case of the Election of 2020, it is very hard to argue that one could objectively look at all the facts and take the position the election was stolen. Those who choose not to review the pertinent information and still choose to take the position that it was stolen would be acting on the principle of blind faith. They have chosen to believe what Donald Trump or his allies have said to be true. Those that have looked at the evidence objectively and still chosen to take the position that the election was stolen would have to be operating on the basis of denial-they just do not want to believe that the election was not stolen. It is like watching your sports team lose a game and insisting they have won! You don’t want to admit defeat!
I think it is easier to understand why people have chosen with blind faith to believe the election was stolen than to understand why people would take the same position after reviewing the evidence to the contrary. Denial implies taking the position that something is untrue. The counter position would be acceptance. Does it just come down to the fact that there are people who just cannot accept and therefore deny the outcome?
That begs the question why do these people want to deny the outcome?
